On November 15th we got all dolled up and strutted down the red carpet (well.. this year it was blue) and rubbed shoulders with some of ITV’s biggest talent. And it was all in honour of ITV Palooza. An event to showcase upcoming content, a brand refresh and the launch of ITVX, the brand new streaming home for ITV.
Big On Content, Big On Delivery
ITV went big on content this year, which meant we created more deliverables than previous years. Plus, everything was to be shown on three giant LED screens. This year part of the show was broken down into sections by genre; drama, documentary, reality, entertainment, comedy, film, anime and sport. Our task was to create reels, graphics and deliver clips for the entire show.
ITV’s Journey to ITVX
The biggest concept was the Opening reel, which drew on ITV’s history as a broadcaster and how they’ve reflected and shaped culture. The aim this year was to stir people’s emotions with nostalgia and signal ITV as a future-facing company. Luckily, we’re big into TV at TellyJuice so we all delved into ITV’s archive to grab the most iconic moments and helped build the reel together.
Speaking of collaboration, we asked electronic string quartet Escala to play live against the soundtrack. Escala and ITV have a great connection already as the quartet are Britain’s Got Talent finalists.
Dealing With Data
As you can imagine, a project of this size requires a lot of content. Not a problem for us at TellyJuice though. We have the capabilities to store and manage a lot of data for when a client, especially one like ITV, requires it.
We also worked with Creative Technology who handled the screen play-out, to ensure everything ran smoothly on the screens on the day.
Endless Carousels of Content
Another part of the screen delivery were giant carousels of shows and films, constantly scrolling on the screen to reflect ITV’s increased investment in content. For each “genre” we created a carousel of images to move slowly across the screens.
Branding The Palooza
On top of all that, we designed the branding for the event, which included: press boards, cue cards, wristbands, email invites and lanyards. One of the challenges was working with the ITVX current branding to make it fit with the Palooza. ITV’s brief was to add “razzmatazz” to the ITVX branding, and we did just that! With fizzes, sparkle and bokeh around the X.
It was great to work as a team and it’s always a pleasure to collaborate with the team at ITV on this event, and thank you for the invite to the after party!
