Sheldon, our Freesat snail must once again don his bow-tie, as he has been nominated for an award: Outstanding Performance of an Animated Character in a Commercial by the 13th Annual Visual Effects Society (VES) in Hollywood!
Sheldon the snail was lovingly created by TellyJuice and Framestore for a Freesat commercial, which is currently being aired nationwide. Read here how he was created and to see a behind-the-scenes video.
Hanging out in Hollywood
This is a prestigious global awards ceremony and if you look at the competition you’ll see that we are in some great company with huge Hollywood movies included in the nominations: Dawn of the Planet of Apes, The Boxtrolls, Birdman, The Hobbit, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Outstanding Visual Effects in a Commercial
In his category Sheldon will be up against some fierce competition:
Can he slay Drogon from Game of Thrones?
Will he send Monty the Penguin from the John Lewis Christmas ad waddling?
Is he c-ape-able of championing Maya the SSE orangutang?
VES Chair Jeffrey A. Okun says,
Visual effects in and by themselves are nothing unless they serve the story. This year, more than ever, we are seeing amazing work that not only serves the story but tells the story in a manner never before seen. The VES Awards is proud that we are the only organization that showcases and honors these amazing artists in depth and across a wide range of fields. We are extremely proud of our nominees!
Whooo-hoo! Go Sheldon! The event will take place in Beverly Hills on Wednesday February 4th. Fingers crossed…!
